The goal of this website is to help a wide variety of people who are studying the interlocked problems of tick-borne disease and deer overpopulation.

Tick-borne diseases include not only the epidemic Lyme disease, but also emerging diseases such as babesiosis, ehrlichiosis (anaplasmosis) and others. Despite more than 30 years of awareness about Lyme disease, it continues to grow and spread. It is mainly found in the Northeastern states, but has now spread to every state, as well as Canada, Mexico and even overseas.

The diseases are mainly transmitted to humans by the black-legged tick (deer tick). The crucial link to continuing the life cycle of the tick is the white-tailed deer.

The deer have been reproducing at dramatic rates in many states, damaging the forests, creating roadway collision hazards, and more. In some states or parts of states, the deer population may be held in check by predators and by sport hunting policies. But in many other locations, the deer are over-running any efforts to control the population by traditional methods. This is particularly true in suburban towns, where the deer have adapted to the "edge" habitat offered by lawns and woodland patches.  . . .
